Frequently Asked Questions

1. My teenagers are becoming of driving age, when do I need to add them to my auto policy?

Your young driver should be listed on your policy as a non-driver. You will need to notify your agent once they are enrolled in drivers training and will get learners permit. Once your young driver has completed the learning phase and has officially received their driver's license you will need to add them to your policy as a driver. Be sure you also go to the free reports section of our website and select the free report titled: 101 Teen Safety Driving Tips. This information is very helpful for teen drivers and parents.

2. What do I do if I have been in an auto accident?

Depending on what carrier you have they may have different reporting procedures. Best thing to do is contact your agent and get their advice on how to move forward. For detailed steps on what to do in the event of an auto accident and more information about claim procedures please click on the free report titled: Auto Claim Report.

3. I have had several changes to my home; do I need to contact my company?

It is imperative that you do an annual review with your agent and notify them any time you make changes to your home or property that may change the risk or value. For your convenience you can either contact your agent directly or click on the manage my policy tab to log into our agencies CAROL site (your personal agency website). There you will find a renewal review form which will address many items including changes to your home. This form will go to your agent for review and they will contact you with any changes that need to be made.

4. I am interested in a quote but don't see that option on your quote tabs, can I still request a quote directly from your website?

We have several options for quoting but can't break out each service we offer so we have included a miscellaneous quote section. In this section there is a simple form for you to input your information. In the comment box please give as much detail as possible so we can proceed and get you a quote.

5. I am concerned with internet security and privacy of my information, what do you do with my information once it is entered?

Your privacy is very important to us. We do not sell or share any of your information outside of our agency. Once we receive your information we use it to answer your questions and provide you with a quote and nothing more. As an additional service you automatically receive free tips and our monthly newsletter through our email program. For further information about our Privacy Policy and Terms of Use for our website click here.

6. Are there discounts or benefits by keeping all of my policies with one agency?

Without a doubt it is important that our agency write all of your insurance needs. We have a full spectrum of products to offer you and many of our carriers provide multi-policy discounts which will save you money along with many other money saving discounts we offer. Most importantly it isn't just about the up front discounts and cost savings you will receive, it's about the money you will save by not having critical losses due to gaps in coverage because of inappropriate coverage. Our insurance specialists take the time to analyze all your insurance needs and make sure that through clear communication with you that your are fully insured.

7. What is the different between an independent agency and going through a direct writer like State Farm or Geico?

Dickinson Insurance is an independent agency. What this means is that we shop the market place in order to find the most competitive, efficient programs that will serve all of your needs. This allows us to work with many companies and use the best technology to get you the cost savings and quick service you deserve. A direct writing company uses only one carrier and their system is designed to offer you ONLY that companies specific coverage. As an independent agency we work for you and on your behalf!

8. I am starting a business and don't know what I will need for insurance - where do I start?

First of all, we are here to help you. We have a team of commercial insurance specialists that have over 100+ years combined experience they are here to offer you their best solutions for your insurance needs. You will need to be clear what your business entails and it is best if you have all "projected" sales or payroll figures. Most commercial carrier rates are based on one of these figures. From there the agent can walk you through the process and point out what products you will need to protect yourself and your business. We have several free reports that offer great advice if you choose to start the process by first obtaining general information. Check out our Free Reports and be sure to select the one that best fits what you are looking for. When you're ready, be sure to give us a call, send an email, or apply for a quote online. Still not sure what you need but want a quote? Fill out the miscellaneous quote form and an agent will get back to you as soon as possible.

9. What is a VIN Number?

VIN stands for Vehicle Identification Number. This number is required to insure your car but more importantly it is the unique number that your car is given by the manufacturer. This identifies your car and also gives details about the features and description of your vehicle. Most newer cars have a 17 digit VIN number. Your VIN number can be found on your dash board (usually seen through your windshield by looking over your hood into your car on the drivers side), it is sometimes located on the inside door jam of your car on the drivers side.

If you have any questions that we haven't answered here, please don't hesitate to email or call our office. We are always happy to help! Email me at: info@dickinsononline.com. Please be sure to ask your question clearly and a qualified agent will get back to you with an answer as soon as possible!
